Inlay-Onlay Restorations

Inlay-Onlay Restorations

Inlay/Onlay restoration is used to treat tooth decay and damage that cannot be repaired with traditional filling materials. They are scraped from crystalline porcelain material and applied to the tooth using an oral impression. It is an aesthetic treatment applied to teeth where there is insufficient tooth tissue to fill.

Inlays are used to fill spaces in the inner groove of teeth that do not extend to the outer edge. Onlay is the filling material used to repair damage or cavities on the tooth’s outer border or chewing surface.

In aesthetic dentistry, the goal is to provide patients with a healthy and attractive smile. In order to achieve this goal, it is essential to eliminate the damages caused by a variety of factors in the teeth in the most accurate and aesthetically pleasing manner possible, and to choose alternatives that do not disturb the overall harmony of the teeth or cause color mismatches, in addition to improving function. In this context, dental fillings are used to preserve the dental health of the patient.

1.Inlay/Onlay filling material and restoration techniques make the result appear more aesthetically pleasing.

2.It is long-lasting: Inlay/Onlay fillings have a significantly longer lifespan than composite or amalgam fillings. Composite fillings have a lifespan of 5 to 10 years, while amalgam fillings have a lifespan of 10 to 15 years. In comparison to these alternatives, the longevity of Inlay/Onlay restorations exceeds 20 years.

3.It is durable: Inlay / onlay fillings have much greater adhesion than composite fillings because they are adhered to the lost area with medical adhesives. Inlay/Onlay fillings have a higher surface resistance than direct composite fillings, so they are much less likely to break or fall. Over time, amalgam fillings may deteriorate. Certain chemicals that come into contact with the mouth can seep through worn cracks and cause the inner decay of teeth. There is no such risk associated with Inlay/Onlay restorations. Porcelain inlay/onlay restorations are extremely resistant to fractures and abrasions.

4.It does not contain any allergens; however, amalgam fillings contain mercury, a toxin. Mercury’s ability to cause allergic reactions in some patients poses a risk. However, porcelain Inlay/Onlay restorations do not contain this material. Inlay and onlay restorations do not cause allergic or toxic reactions.

5.It becomes tough rapidly: Contrary to conventional fillings, porcelain fillings are not adversely affected by oral factors such as saliva, blood, and moisture.

6.It is highly biocompatible: Since laboratory-produced fillings are studied for Inlay/Onlay restorations, significantly more precise and aesthetically pleasing results can be achieved.

7.They enhance the resilience of dental tissue: Inlay/Onlay restorations allow for improved contacts and contours to be created. In this instance, Hollywood Smile, one of the most popular applications in recent years, can be favored over traditional filling materials. Additionally, they strengthen the remaining smooth tooth tissue.

Steps in inlay restoration treatment:

Initially, the carious tooth is anesthetized with local anesthesia. The dentist removes and cleans the decayed portion of the tooth’s inner surface. After cleaning every problematic area of the tooth, the cavity is measured and porcelain filling material is expected to be fabricated in a laboratory environment to match the tooth’s color and shape. A temporary filling is bonded to the tooth until a porcelain filling can be manufactured. In the final session, the prepared porcelain fillings are bonded to the tooth using special adhesives. Any excess material is removed and polished. After completing all of these steps, inlay/onlay restoration is complete. While inlays/onlays cover the chewing surface of the tooth, they are virtually undetectable and provide a very natural tooth restoration.

Dental Bridge

Our whole health depends largely on our oral and dental wellness. However, oral illnesses are fairly widespread and obviously upsetting for everyone. Teeth can be damaged or completely lost for various reasons over time. Thankfully, modern advanced technologies provide efficient remedies for dental and oral health. One of these methods, dental bridges, enables you to regain your oral health and smile with confidence. Tooth loss is no longer a big problem. Thousands of patients leave our clinics in Turkey happy because they receive the right solutions. Need to know more about dental bridges? So let’s dive in!

What is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is a permanent prosthesis that bridges the gap left by a missing tooth or teeth. It is made up of a number of parts that are joined together to fit into the empty space left by your missing tooth or teeth. Dental bridges can be used in place of partial dentures. This prosthesis can improve your ability to speak and chew. It also provides an aesthetic appearance.

Dental bridges are made of materials such as gold, alloy or porcelain. Porcelain is frequently used to replace front teeth because it may match your natural tooth color.

There are several types of dental bridges: Traditional fixed bridges, Implant-supported bridges, Maryland dental bridges or resin-bonded bridges, and Cantilever bridges.

Traditional fixed bridges are the most typical kind of bridge. Each side of the artificial tooth is adorned with a crown. Front teeth are frequently replaced using resin-bonded bridges or Maryland dental bridges. This kind of dental bridge uses metal or porcelain frameworks with “wings” attached to the backs of your teeth on either side of the gap. With an implant-supported bridge, one implant is surgically inserted into your jawbone to replace each lost tooth. The prostheses are positioned in the bridge, which is later put over them. In the cantilever bridge method, if there is a natural tooth on only one side of the gap, the artificial teeth are fixed to the natural tooth with a single crown. However, this method is not as common as it used to be.

Bridge teeth have many benefits. Such as:

  • Teeth that seem natural and a stunning smile.
  • Stopping surrounding teeth from erupting into the gap, which could lead to biting issues and other issues.
  • Protecting the jaw’s bone density where the lost tooth or teeth are by avoiding bone loss there.
  • Facilitating better meal chewing.
  • Regaining normal speech, as it might be challenging to pronounce things when you lack teeth.
  • The cost of dental bridges is low.
  • Short durations of procedure.

Dental bridge costs vary depending on the type of bridge being utilized and the material that will be used. Simple bridge dental procedures have relatively cheap costs. Zirconium-made bridge teeth, however, could be pricier. And one of the factors affecting the cost of treatment is the patient’s anticipated number of bridged teeth.
